What you need in your emetophobia kit!

Emetophobia (the fear of vomiting) is very real for a lot of people. It’s completely irrational, but there’s not much I can do to talk myself out of it.

I’ve had chronic nausea for years, so I’ve found a lot of hacks to help with it. They’re not perfect, but they definitely help, so I wanted to share them with you! NOTE: as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  1. Relief Band – at $100-ish for the basic model, this is a bit pricey, but I’d buy it over and over again. It helps so much with nausea from many causes (motion sickness, pregnancy, illness, migraines)–I’ve even been able to read in the car while wearing one! It works by sending a pattern of pulses up your median nerve. It feels a little weird at first, but you get used to it quickly.

You can buy sets with the band and conductivity gel included, but I like to buy these larger tubes of electrode gel (less expensive and more product!).

They also have other upgraded models like the Premier and the Sport.
  2. Sea Bands – similar concept, simple execution. A stretchy elastic band with a hard plastic piece that you put on the inside of your wrist. The acupressure point helps with nausea. They’re easy to carry around
  3. peppermint tea – this is my favorite, and yes, I buy the 6-pack!
  4. Emetrol liquid – I’m not sure how or why this works, but it does! The cherry tastes really good, not like medicine at all. They also make Emetrol in chewable form or as a mix-in drink packet.
  5. emesis bags – Hear me out. You don’t want to think about the v-word … I get it. But being able to have just a little control over an unexpected situation can definitely help ease anxiety. You can keep these in your car, purse, or backpack … hopefully it won’t happen, but just in case.
  6. rubbing alcohol – Did you know sniffing rubbing alcohol can help with nausea? Studies have shown it works more quickly than prescription anti-nausea meds! I learned this trick when my daughter had surgery and was queasy after anesthesia. You can get these pre-wrapped wipes that are super portable and easy to slip into a wallet or really anywhere.
  7. These zippered pouches are great for putting all of your stuff in. They come with 12 in the set, so you can keep one in the car, your desk at work, your backpack …

Here are some other products that I haven’t tried yet but look promising!
